Multiple law enforcement agencies are urging residents to stay home amid hazardous road conditions on Sunday morning after overnight snowfall.

The Oologah Police Department is telling residents to stay home. The department said that the city streets have not been plowed and currently have 4 to 5 inches of snow on top of the road.

The Owasso Police Department is asking residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

While the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is working to clear roadways, police said the roadways are worse this morning than they were yesterday.

Police warn that drivers run the risk of getting stuck in snow drifts caused by falling snow and plows as they work to move snow off the main roads.

Owasso PD said its officers have responded to more stuck vehicles and stranded motorists in the early hours of Sunday than all day Saturday.

Police said not to travel, stating:

“Please consider this travel warning and do not venture out unless absolutely necessary until street crews have had a chance to catch up.”

The department said to call 911 for any emergency, and that officers will be out responding to stranded motorists throughout the day.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) is also warning drivers against traveling unless necessary.

If you have to get out, OEM is recommending:

  • Clear your windshield and windows completely before driving
  • Drive slowly and do not make any sudden changes in speed or direction
  • If you start sliding take your foot off the gas and turn gently into the slide. Do not panic, overcorrect or slam on your breaks
  • Keep your emergency kit stocked and travel with warm clothes, kitty litter, sand, food and water
