WASHINGTON (TNND) — An old 1980 clip of President Donald Trump has been going viral amid the conflict in Iran.
Between 1979 and 1980, 52 American diplomats and citizens were held hostage by revolutionaries in Iran for over a year.
He then weighed in on the then-current situation of Americans captured.
“The Iranian situation is case in point that they hold our hostages is just absolutely and totally ridiculous that this country sits back and allows a country such as Iran to hold our hostages, to my way of thinking is a horror,” he said.
The interviewer proceeded to ask Trump if the U.S. should send troops into Iran.
Over the weekend, the U.S. and Israel conducted an attack on Iran, resulting in retaliation and multiple countries getting hit.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in previous statements that Iran was “building powerful missiles and drones to create a conventional shield for their nuclear blackmail ambitions.”
Americans have been urged to leave over a dozen countries in the Middle East as the conflict continues to spread.
