As the ongoing conflict in the Middle East enters its fifth day, Penn State University is taking precautions to help protect its students and faculty who may be traveling abroad.

Earlier this week, the Department of State issued a travel advisory for all U.S. citizens in several Middle Eastern countries.

With that in mind, Penn State has now issued its own travel ban, indefinitely suspending all University-related travel to the Middle East.

That travel ban includes the following countries:

  • Afghanistan
  • Bahrain
  • Cyprus
  • Egypt
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Israel (including West Bank and Gaza)
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Qatar
  • Oman
  • Pakistan
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Syria
  • United Arab Emirates (including Abu Dhabi and Dubai)
  • Yemen

Penn State’s Office of Global Safety is also advising all students, faculty and staff, who may be planning to travel overseas, to be mindful and stay informed of all current events.

The university notes that any students or faculty who are already traveling abroad, before the ban was issued, should expect direct updates from Penn State Global Safety.
