Daniel Ray Myers is accused of stabbing a woman multiple times late Feb. 10 after she resisted an alleged sexual assault while out delivering for DoorDash.

Salem Police say that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) took Myers into custody around 8 p.m. in the Buttonwillow area near Bakersfield, California.

“After the media release and a bulletin had been distributed to law enforcement, detectives received three separate calls from law enforcement agencies in Oregon and California indicating they had reports that Myers’ vehicle had been seen,” Salem Police said in a press release sent to KATU News. “From these tips, detectives learned that Myers had fled Oregon and was in California traveling south toward Bakersfield.”

SPD said they specifically reached out to CHP which led to the capture. Myers was arrested without incident and will be extradited back to Oregon at a later date.

KATU has confirmed that Myers served time in Oregon for murder and burglary starting in 1984. He was originally sentenced to life in prison, but was paroled on January 21, 2025.
