WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (WKRC) — Investigators in Iowa believe they may have found the person responsible for the 2011 slaying of realtor Ashley Okland, per KCRG.
Okland was found dead from two gunshots in a model townhouse in West Des Moines on April 8, 2011, where she was holding an open house. On Tuesday, nearly 15 years later, authorities announced 53-year-old Kristin Ramsey had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case.
“Today is a day my family has thought about very often over the last 14 years,” Josh Okland, Ashley’s brother, said during a press conference announcing Ramsey’s arrest.
“We had lost our hope in finding answers and having any justice of Ashley,” Ashley’s sister, Brittany, said. “It was really difficult to accept that the case had gone cold.”
Authorities have not said what led them to arrest Ramsey or what her motive may have been, but the West Des Moines Police Department said it’s not expecting to make additional arrests.
