ROME, Ga. — President Donald Trump is turning his attention to northwest Georgia this week, stepping into a congressional race that has suddenly become more than just a local contest.
Trump is scheduled to speak Thursday in Rome, the heart of Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. It is the seat once held by Marjorie Taylor Greene, who resigned in January after publicly breaking with the president.

White House officials say Trump plans to focus on the economy during his visit.
Georgia is obviously a very important state to the president and to the Republican Party,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said ahead of the trip. She said Trump’s remarks will highlight “his efforts to make life affordable for working people.
But the setting of the visit carries political weight.
The 14th District is deeply conservative and one of the most Republican districts in the state. It has also become a testing ground for Trump’s influence inside his own party.

Trump recently endorsed Clay Fuller, a district attorney who prosecutes crimes across four counties. Fuller has called the endorsement “rocket fuel” for his campaign.
Other Republican candidates include former state Sen. Colton Moore, who has been vocal in defending Trump during legal challenges in Georgia. Moore has said Trump’s decision to back Fuller was “unfortunate” but continues to praise the president.
The top Democrat in the race is Shawn Harris, who previously ran against Greene. Political analysts rate the district as the most Republican in Georgia, making a Democratic upset unlikely.
Trump’s visit also comes as Georgia remains central to his ongoing claims about the 2020 election.
Last month, federal agents seized voting records and ballots from Fulton County as part of a broader investigation. Trump has long claimed Georgia was central to what he describes as a stolen election, allegations that audits, courts and state officials have rejected.

At a recent White House event, Trump repeated those claims.
“We won by millions of votes but they cheated,” he said.
Some Republicans in Georgia are pushing for greater oversight of Fulton County elections under a 2021 state law, though no formal action has been taken.
For local voters in northwest Georgia, the stakes are immediate. The winner of the March 10 special election will fill the seat Greene vacated. If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff will be held April 7.

For Trump, the Rome appearance offers a chance to energize Republican voters in a district he carried comfortably — and to reinforce his role as kingmaker in a race that blends local politics with national attention.
