WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump called on the public to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as soon as possible if anyone has information about the Nancy Guthrie case.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the announcement on Tuesday — just after the FBI released surveillance video that showed a masked person with what appeared to be a handgun holster walking around Guthrie’s porch the night she went missing.
Guthrie is the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.
“I was once again with the president. He and I were both reviewing the newly released surveillance footage from FBI in the Savannah Guthrie case on just this heartbreaking situation with respect to her mother,” Leavitt told reporters during a news conference.
“The president encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of this suspect to please call the FBI, who continue to assist state and local authorities who are leading this investigation on the ground,” she added. “And, once again, I will reiterate that the prayers of this entire White House are with Savannah and her family at this time and we hope that this person is found soon.”
Leavitt also said Trump felt disgusted when looking at the footage.
His initial reaction, of course, is of pure disgust,” she said.
Video released by the FBI shows the person wearing a backpack, long sleeves and pants while walking up to the door at Guthrie’s home in Tucson. The footage shows the person trying to cover a camera near the front door with their gloved hand before putting plants in front of the camera.
The images show “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” FBI Director Kash Patel said on X.
In the videos, the person appeared to be wearing the holster attached to their front waist area.
The new images were “recovered from residual data located in backend systems” after investigators had spent days trying to find images or video that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible, Patel said.
The announcement follows heartbreaking messages made by Savannah Guthrie and her family during the last few days as they plead with the apparent kidnappers to hand over their mother.
