WASHINGTON (TNND) β Locals in South Minneapolis have made a roadblock for public safety measures against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the city.
Neighbors say that ICE is harming their communities and they have people keeping an eye out for unfamiliar cars, bringing food and standing watch, according to CBS News.
Another said the roadblock was necessary to protect the neighborhood.
“We need to keep our neighbors safe,β resident Kelly Piatt said.βWe will be doing this again.β
Many protests have occurred across Minnesota due to immigration raids that have happened in the state.
Two demonstrators were killed last month protesting the immigration policies of President Donald Trump.
The FBI is investigating both instances, as Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed by immigration officers.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Monday that body cameras were being deployed for every ICE officer in Minneapolis.
βAs funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide,β she wrote on X. βWe will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country. The most transparent administration in American history – thank you @POTUS Trump.”
