SAN ANTONIO — A 19-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly rear-ending parked emergency vehicles while driving under the influence on the city’s North Side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The incident occurred around 2:05 a.m. in the 2700 block of Loop 1604 on the North Side.

Police said off-duty officers were working with construction crews to direct traffic at the time. The officers’ vehicles were parked with red and blue emergency lights activated to alert motorists to the lane closures.

According to investigators, the suspect was driving a Toyota Camry at an unsafe speed when he failed to change lanes or slow down. The Camry struck the parked emergency vehicles from behind.

Several passengers and off-duty officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following an initial investigation, authorities determined the driver was under the influence. He faces charges of intoxication assault.
