Mark Vargas, who was a part of the Iraq Task Force under the former secretary of defense, told The National News Desk he expects sleeper cell attacks in the United States and urged Americans to “stay vigilant.”

“I hate to saying the answer is yes, but yes, these sleeper cells have been able to enter our country over the last four years of open borders. No questions asked. They’re here. It’s not a question of if, but when they attack,” Vargas said. “My thoughts and my prayers. My heart goes out to that, to the community. This is these are unspeakable tragedies. But I encourage every one of your viewers and listeners and all Americans stay vigilant. There will be additional attacks.”

Vargas also pointed to heightened uncertainty tied to what he described as “economic warfare,” including the impact of a Strait of Hormuz blockage on Americans. He said President Donald Trump anticipated such a move and “has offered U.S. Navy vessels and ships to be able to provide full military escorts to these ships so that we don’t disrupt.”

“This was totally anticipated. And the Iranians are going by their playbook,” Vargas said.

Asked about the outlook for “boots on the ground” and a timeline for the conflict, Vargas described Operation Epic Fury as “a total success” and said, “There’s no need for boots on the ground.”

Vargas said the U.S. “has had over 5000 targets taken out” and “over 50 naval vessels,” and added, “Israel has hit 2000.” He said he did not expect the war “to last much longer,” arguing that “the full United States military is decimating this regime.”

“Iran for the last 40 years has been a state sponsor of terrorism,” Vargas said. “Since 2006, Iran has backed over 1000 terror attacks. Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah. They only exist because Iran has funded them $700 million a year.”

Vargas also alleged those groups “use women and children as human shields” and “conduct operations out of mosques and churches,” adding that they “launch rockets and mortars from the tops of hospitals and schools.”

“We’ll continue to decimate the Iranian regime until nothing is left,” Vargas said.
