HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts called for the end of personal attacks against judges on Tuesday.
He said during an event held by the Baker Institute for Public Policy, a think tank at Rice University, that aggressive criticism by various political commentators is endangering judges.
“Judges around the country work very hard to get it right, and if they don’t, their opinions are subject to criticism,” Roberts said. “But personally directed hostility is dangerous, and it’s got to stop.”
President Donald Trump has disparaged the Supreme Court since it ruled against his tariffs last month. He wrote in a social media post on Sunday that the court is “little more than a weaponized and unjust Political Organization.”
“This completely inept and embarrassing Court was not what the Supreme Court of the United States was set up by our wonderful Founders to be,” Trump said on Truth Social. “They are hurting our Country, and will continue to do so.”
