Sydney Sweeney distanced herself from being dubbed “MAGA Barbie,” a title which caught widespread traction for the “Euphoria” star last summer following her appearance in a controversial American Eagle ad campaign.

The actress sat down with Cosmopolitan Magazine for an interview to promote the launch of her new lingerie line Syrn. At one point in the interview, Alexandra Whittaker asked Sweeney how she felt about being propped up as the right’s sex symbol.

“I’ve never been here to talk about politics,” Sweeney said.

“I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of. “

“And I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn,” Sweeney continued. “But it’s somebody else assigning something to me, and I can’t control that.”

Sweeney’s appearance in an American Eagle ad campaign last summer sparked harsh criticism mainly from the left, claiming the ad campaign was a dog whistle in support of Nazis and eugenics. The drama from the ad campaign spilled over in the political arena as politicians such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Vice President JD Vance coming to Sweeney’s defense.

During the controversy, it was revealed that Sweeney was a registered Republican, garnering Trump to say he likes Sweeney even more and called her ad “fantastic.”

Whittaker asked Sweeney why not denounce the association to Trump and Republicans if it’s not true, to which Sweeney replied that it would be a losing situation.

“If I say, ‘That’s not true,’ they’ll come at me like, ‘You’re just saying that to look better,” Sweeney said. “There’s no winning. There’s never any winning. I just have to continue being who I am, because I know who I am. I can’t make everyone love me. I know what I stand for.”

Sweeney said that there will never be a future where she will share and express her politics to the masses.

“I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts,” Sweeney said. “I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into. It’s not why I became who I am. I became an actor because I like to tell stories, but I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another.”
