The social media debate of the day has been over the difficulty of baseball versus the difficulty of cricket. It should go without saying that some of the dumbest people on the internet think that America’s pastime is an unbelievably easy sport.
The entire debate spawned from this video of a cricket player hitting batting practice speed pitches. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of baseball could easily tell you that those hits would be fly outs that wouldn’t even sniff the warning track at a baseball stadium, and that the pitches he’s hitting are about 60 percent slower than the average fastball an MLB player would see on any given day.

To further prove cricket’s supremacy, another user posted a video of a “star” cricket player pitching mid-70s fastballs to get a strikeout. What he leaves out is that he was pitching to a batter in the Pioneer League, a developmental league limited to players who have less than three years of professional sports experience. It’s not even on the MLB ladder.

If cricket players could so easily make the switch to baseball and dominate, why aren’t they? From the most rudimentary research imaginable, the average MLB contract is higher than the premier cricket contracts, let alone top level MLB contracts. Are we really supposed to believe that these guys wouldn’t follow the money?
Leave it to the Europeans and the Third World to trash America’s sport during the World Series.
