Trump claims acting Venezuelan presidency via fake Wikipedia page

(TNND) — After stating that the U.S. will “run” Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, President Donald Trump took to social media on Sunday to share a fake image of a Wikipedia page labeling him as the “Acting President of Venezuela” as of January 2026.

Meanwhile, Trump’s real profile on Wikipedia shows “45th and 47th President of the United States.”

In reality, Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro’s vice president, was sworn in as interim president on Jan. 5. At first, Rodriguez slammed Maduro’s arrest, calling for his “immediate release,” but the Trump administration supported her while threatening an outcome worse than Maduro if she does not “do what’s right.”

Trump warned Rodriguez in an interview with The Atlantic that if she “doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.”

A week after the U.S. military operation, Venezuela said it decided to initiate an exploratory diplomatic process with the Government of the United States of America, which was severed during Trump’s first term in 2019.

The State Department said a small team of U.S. diplomats and diplomatic security officials traveled to Venezuela to make a preliminary assessment about the potential re-opening of the U.S. Embassy in Caracas.

Due to increased cooperation under Rodriguez, Trump said on Friday he canceled a “second wave of attacks” and applauded Venezuela for “releasing large numbers of political prisoners as a sign of ‘Seeking Peace.'”

Trump added that the two countries are working well together, “especially as it pertains to rebuilding, in a much bigger, better, and more modern form, their oil and gas infrastructure.”
