Trump endorses Wyoming’s congresswoman for Senate

President Donald Trump endorsed Wyoming’s congresswoman for Senate on Friday.

He said in a social media post that Republican Representative Harriet Hageman, who announced her campaign hours earlier, is a “TOTAL WINNER!”

“Harriet Hageman has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be your next Senator – SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump wrote.

It’s unclear who Hageman’s opponents will be in next year’s election, which will determine Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis’s replacement. The one-term senator announced Friday she will not seek reelection.

Trump said Hageman has “ALWAYS delivered” for Wyoming and will continue to do so in the Senate, although some Democrats have found fault with her record.

“She will fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, Champion our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Support our Incredible Military/Veterans, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote.

The Wyoming Democratic Party has criticized Hageman’s work on several issues, including healthcare, and said last week that Lummis’s retirement represents a chance for residents to have a leader who “actually fights for them, not billionaire donors and special interests.”

“After enduring the highest health insurance premium spikes in the nation, Wyomingites have a chance to elect someone who believes healthcare is a right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy,” the party said in a statement. “And after years of being ignored, Wyomingites deserve a Senator who shows up to listen. The choice is ours.”

Lummis has defended her work and said in her retirement announcement that she has fought for the state with “commonsense” Republicans.
