President Donald Trump canceled his invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to join his Board of Peace after he gave a fiery speech at the World Economic Forum, warning the U.S. president that he could alter the world order even more if he stops considering the shared values of the U.S.’s allies.

“Dear Prime Minister Carney,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time.”

Although Trump didn’t explain, the withdrawal of Canada’s invitation adds to the escalating tensions between the U.S. and world leaders.

Trump on Thursday inaugurated his “Board of Peace” alongside a group of world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, signaling the beginning of his efforts to maintain a ceasefire in Israel’s war with Hamas.

“This isn’t the United States, this is for the world,” he said at the signing.

The president announced 59 countries had signed onto the board, which is charged with “peace-building functions in accordance with international law.”

Members will receive a permanent seat if they are willing to pay $1 billion, which Carney said Canada was not willing to do.

So far, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Italy, have declined the invitation.

Trump responded to Carney during his own speech on Wednesday and told the audience that Canada “lives because of the United States — remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”

“Canada gets a lot of freebies from us,” Trump said. “They should be grateful, also, but they’re not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful.”

Carney hit back on his way back to Canada, writing on X that his country “doesn’t ‘live because of the United States.’ Canada thrives because we are Canadian.”
