Trump to attend renaming part of Southern Blvd. as ‘President Donald J. Trump Boulevard’

Six months after Palm Beach County commissioners voted 7-0 to rename a stretch of Southern Boulevard after President Donald Trump, a dedication ceremony for the formal name change will take place today.

President Trump is expected to attend the ceremony today at Mar-a-Lago at 3:15 p.m., when the segment of Southern Boulevard between Kirk Road and South Ocean Boulevard — covering the highly visible route from Palm Beach International Airport to Mar-a-Lago.

The name change, backed by legislation signed last year by Gov. Ron DeSantis, sparked heated public comment but ultimately passed with a 7–0 vote.

In the days after the vote last July, Palm Beach County drivers scrolling through Google Maps may have done a double-take when a familiar roadway suddenly carried a new name, “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.”

The board also approved a separate honorary designation for PBSO Motorman Highway, which honors three Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies who died in motorcycle crashes while on duty. That designation will apply to a section of Southern Boulevard between Lion Country Safari Road and Royal Palm Beach Boulevard.

In November, PBSO lost three of its deputies, Corporal Luis Paez, Deputy Sheriff Dan Diaz and Deputy Sheriff Butch Waller. The three law enforcement officers were killed after a driver hit their motor unit on Southern Boulevard. (PBSO){ }

Commissioners emphasized that both designations are ceremonial — meaning they won’t affect addresses, 911 responses, or official maps. However, signage is expected to be installed in the coming months, and Google Maps has already reflected the Trump designation on the app.

Following the county’s unanimous decision, President Trump took to Truth Social thanks Palm Beach County, Gov. Ron DeSantis and all of Florida’s lawmakers to changing the name of the street.

“It has been brought to my attention that the Great State of Florida, which I won BIG three times, and where I am a proud Resident, has renamed an important four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard, in Palm Beach County, to ‘PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP BOULEVARD,'” Trump said in a statement.

The county declaration stresses that the renaming is purely ceremonial: postal addresses and emergency-response systems will continue to use Southern Boulevard. County staff will collect public feedback ahead of a final FDOT inspection once the signs are up.
