WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump threatened to “blow up” the South Pars gas field if Iran continues to attack Qatar.
Hit by Israel, Trump claims he knew nothing of the plans to attack the field.
Although Trump promised no more attacks from Israel, he threatened retaliation if Qatar was hit again by Iran. In that case, he threatened to “blow up” the field using “strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
“NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar – In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
According to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, the U.S. was informed of the plans of Israel to strike, but decided not to join.
The Middle East conflict continues to rock gas prices as key shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz remain blocked. The Trump administration tossed around the idea of escorting ships through the passage to aid with economic pressure.
