Undocumented trio busted in Florida after DEA intercepts pain pills from Guatemala

Three men were arrested in Bonita Springs after federal agents intercepted a shipment of 2,000 pain pills smuggled from Guatemala.

Officials said that the operation began when DEA Miami informed the Lee County Sheriff’s Office about a package containing 2,000 Tramadol pills, which was on its way to a residence on Dortch Avenue in Bonita Springs. The package was allegedly picked up by Gabriel Aguilar.

Following the delivery, detectives executed a search warrant at Aguilar’s home and reported uncovering thousands more pills from prior shipments.

According to the release, inside the home, detectives also found Juan Gomez and Gabriel Sombrano, the latter of whom was discovered hiding.

Aguilar has been accused of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, while Sombrano faced charges of obstruction without violence.

Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that all three men are in the United States illegally, with Sombrano having been deported twice before.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno emphasized the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies, stating, “Drug trafficking doesn’t stop at our borders, and neither do we. This case shows the importance of strong partnerships at every level of law enforcement to keep our community safe.”
