(TNND) — Another oil tanker with ties to Venezuela was seized by U.S. military forces in the Caribbean on Thursday, according to Homeland Security Secretary Krisi Noem.
“Motor Tanker Veronica had previously passed through Venezuelan waters, and was operating in defiance of President Trump’s established quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean,” Noem wrote on X.
Noem shared a brief video of the operation showing troops deploying from a helicopter by rope onto the ship’s deck.
U.S. Southern Command shared details of the capture, stating that Marines and sailors from Joint Task Force Southern Spear launched from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and apprehended Motor/Tanker Veronica without incident.
“As we’ve now demonstrated through multiple boardings, there is no outrunning or escaping American justice — period,” Noem continued. “Our resolve is unshakeable and our mission coordination has never been better. America’s Coast Guard remains Always Ready to apply the full force of its unique authorities and specialized capabilities against this threat anywhere, anytime.”
The Veronica is the sixth tanker that has been seized by U.S. forces as part of the effort by President Donald Trump’s administration to take control of Venezuela’s oil.
Trump and members of his Cabinet met with nearly two dozen representatives from the “largest oil companies in the world” at the White House last week to discuss his goal of investing $100 billion to repair and upgrade oil production and distribution in Venezuela.
