The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria, according to reports.

Citing unnamed officials, Fox News broke the story on Saturday.

The attack comes just weeks after two Iowa National Guard members and a U.S. civilian interpreter were shot and killed in an ambush in Syria by a gunman affiliated with ISIS.

It also follows U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack’s meeting in Damascus with Syria’s new leadership. Barrack shared news about the meeting on Friday,

“Today, on behalf of President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, I met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, and members of their team in Damascus to discuss recent developments in Aleppo and the broader path forward for Syria’s historic transition,” Barrack noted in a post on X.

“The United States has long supported efforts to defeat ISIS and promote stability in Syria, including through Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) and our partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), whose sacrifices have been instrumental in achieving enduring gains against terrorism,” he added.

In late December, U.S. Central Command, which oversees the Middle East, said 11 missions were recently carried over a 10-day period and followed initial strikes against ISIS weapons sites and infrastructure on December 19, which hit 70 targets across central Syria.

In the operations since, the U.S. military and other forces from the region, including Syria, killed at least seven IS members, captured others and eliminated four weapons caches, U.S. Central Command said.

“We will not relent,” Adm. Brad Cooper, who leads the command, said in the statement. “We are steadfast in commitment to working with regional partners to root out the ISIS threat posed to U.S. and regional security.”
