MARION COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A man wanted on multiple felony warrants was taken into custody following a dangerous high-speed chase, according to deputies.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said one of its intelligence detectives received information that Arnaldo Benitez, a convicted habitual felony offender, was in the area of Highway 441 and Highway 326 on Dec. 20. Benitez was wanted for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and felony battery.
Investigators say during previous robberies, Benitez held victims at gunpoint and is also suspected in another armed robbery where he fired multiple rifle rounds, striking a victim.
Deputies conducting surveillance found Benitez and attempted a traffic stop. Benitez fled, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph before dashcam video shows deputies executing a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit. Authorities say Benitez initially refused commands but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
