We Don’t Need Trigger Warnings, We Need Tougher Skin

I guess over the weekend, comedian — I’m gonna emphasize that word here: comedian — Shane Gillis was on Saturday Night Live. Setting aside the fact that SNL hasn’t been funny for 25 years, Gillis apparently struck a nerve by describing women who wear certain types of gym shorts “whores.”

Okay, and? I’ve been on Instagram enough to see the stuff some women post. They’re not concerned about fitness, but about making a statement. And that’s fine. Do what you want. But don’t expect everyone to be on board with your choices.

I guess if you realize, deep down, that maybe your gym attire isn’t appropriate, you might be offended by that, as many were, and they’re calling for an apology from Gillis and a boycott of SNL. Even Planet Fitness — hardly conservative — warns against wearing too tight gym attire for safety reasons.

Unless Gillis mentioned “Joanna Schroder” by name, it’s not, in fact, about you or your daughter. But let’s revel for a moment in the audacity of this statement. For years, the Left has taken beloved IPs and turned them into woke garbage. Then they tell the fans, “It’s not for you,” while they dump all over The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and even The Chronicles of Narnia.

They did the same thing with “Charlie’s Angels,” and the more recent “Super Girl” too — telling men the feminist movie wasn’t for them, then whining when men didn’t go to the movie.

“It’s not for you, but give us your money, anyway.”

Only leftists could think that way.

That Joanna heard a joke about inappropriate gym attire and took it personally speaks volumes, and not about Gillis.

Comedy is supposed to be edgy, and there was a time so-called liberals knew this. But now they only want other people’s oxen being gored, not their own. The second a leftist’s sacred cow is the one being questioned, they become violent opponents of free speech.

That’s why these loser slap “trigger warnings” on everything.

Actress and legend Judi Dench, on the other hand, had the exact right response that happened to drop just as the Left melted down over Gillis: “If you’re that sensitive, don’t go to the theatre.”

That’s the argument the Left has used on abortion and drag shows and their trash woke movies for years: “If you easily-offended conservatives don’t like it, don’t go!”

Conservatives don’t.

But the Left cannot exist in a world where people might hear, read, say, and even think things they dislike or disagree with, so they have to say things have “trigger warnings,” which is just a gateway for mass censorship.

What really is happening here is the Left doesn’t want to feel shame for, well, anything. Abort your child? It’s just “reproductive healthcare.” Strangle your child? You were “hormonal.” Stab a toddler in the face? “Mentally ill” and “unfit to stand trial.” Sleep with multiple men at a frat party? A victim of “rape culture.”

Meanwhile, if you have white skin or are heterosexual or Christian or love America, you’re told you must feel guilty for your “privilege” and atone for your “sins.” James Talarico described whiteness as a “virus” for which we must atone by saying “loudly and unequivocally that Black Lives Matter.”

Oh, and don’t forget all the heinous stuff the Left says about Jews and Israel and “Zionists.”

But much like Talarico’s “cure” for the virus, the outrage over Gillis and the trigger warnings are nothing more than performative political virtue signaling. No one was genuinely upset by what Gillis said. Talarico doesn’t believe whiteness is a virus. No one is triggered by stuff in movies. But they pretend to be because it gives them clout and victim street cred.
