
WASHINGTON (TNND) β The Winter Olympics Organizing Committee for 2026 said that it is investigating why medals are breaking.
The committee told CBS News in a statement that they are “aware of an issue affecting a small number of medals and is investigating the matter.β
Breezy Johnson, who won the gold medal for downhill skiing for Team USA said Sunday that her medal broke.
βDonβt jump in them,β she said during an interview.
“I was jumping in excitement and it broke. I’m sure somebody will fix it β it’s not like crazy broken β but it’s a little broken.β
U.S figure skater Alysa Liu said that her medal had a broken off ribbon.
“My medal don’t need the ribbon,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.
A skier from Sweden had a silver medal also fall apart.
“The medal fell in the snow and broke in two,” skier Ebba Andersson said, according to Reuters.
The 2026 Winter Olympics officially began earlier this month in Milan, Italy.
