WASHINGTON (TNND) — Independent journalist Nick Shirley joined Youtuber Andrew Callaghan, who previously made headlines last summer for hosting Hunter Biden on his show, in a wide ranging interview where they discussed Shirley’s viral Minnesota fraud video, America’s affordability crisis and the future of legacy media.
Ever since his nearly 45 minute long Youtube video alleging that Somalian-owned daycares in Minnesota were committing fraud was posted just days before Christmas, Shirley has blown up, landing him interviews on the Sean Ryan Show and the PBD Podcast. His video has garnered the attention of Elon Musk and Vice President JD Vance, and the Trump administration has halted federal funding to childcare assistance to the state. The Department of Homeland Security has also sent Homeland Security Investigations to the state as well.
Here are the top four moments from the interview.
Like Shirley, Callaghan also operates as an independent journalist and films similar style content as Shirley. Callaghan has taken a particular interest in Latin America and even launched an entire Youtube channel dedicated to Spanish-speaking content.
Shirley had previously told Callaghan to go cover the Southwest border for his YouTube channel.
“You were like, ‘you should go cover the border,” Callaghan said. “I was like, ‘I want to go to Nogales to cover it’. You were like, ‘No, you should go to Lukeville. Yeah, you were the one who actually sent me in the right direction.”
Callaghan noted that there are many social media influencers that have been paid by the Democratic National Committee to promote politicians and causes. A month before the 2024 presidential election it was revealed that the Harris campaign paid influencers millions of dollars to promote her.
“Would you ever agree to something like that?” Callaghan asked.
“No, never,” Shirley said.
“I don’t need it,” Shirley said.
“I make enough money doing my videos off YouTube and the people that support me, like, why would I ever turn against their best interest?”
Shirley was highly critical of Callaghan’s alleged lack of response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination last September, even though Callaghan condemned Kirk’s murder in a video which featured the last person to speak with Kirk.
“But I thought that was kind of a messed up of you to not publicly denounce what happened to Charlie Kirk,” Shirley said.
“I did,” Callaghan said.
“I never saw anything on Instagram,” Shirley said.
Callaghan then mentioned that he condemned Kirk’s assassination in a video he posted.
“I interviewed the guy who was debating him while it happened, and I mentioned a bunch of times that it was horrible, and it represented, like, one of the worst pivots in American politics ever,” Callaghan said.
Shirley said he didn’t see the video and didn’t want to watch it.
Shirley and Callaghan engaged in a conversation centered around the notion that there are billionaires which are actively seeking to improve life for everybody. Shirley names President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and David Sachs as the top three benevolent billionaires who are working for the good of everyone.
He gave credit to Musk for his innovation and job creation and Sachs for his work in AI.
“I think a lot of the people are, I think a lot of the billionaires are actually trying to make a difference in this world with their money they have, because you don’t need a billion dollars, and they know that they are able to use their resources,” Shirley said.
