YouTuber to unveil follow-up on alleged daycare fraud in Minnesota

Popular YouTuber Nick Shirley, who became an overnight sensation following the release of a Youtube video accusing the Somalian diaspora in Minnesota of running fraudulent daycares, announced on X that he will be releasing a follow up video.

Shirley posted a photo of himself standing beside whistleblower David Hoch outside of the Quality Learning Center, one of the daycares prominently featured in Shirley’s video. The daycare garnered widespread attention for its misspelling of the word “learning” as “learing” on signage outside the daycare building, but the owners have since changed the spelling error. In the photo, Shirley and Hoch are wearing sweatshirts donning the “Quality Learing Center” logo with the number “1-800-FRAUD” written below it.

Shirley said that “Part 2” of his investigation will drop on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the X post.

The 23-year-old independent journalist released his first video alleging fraud just days before Christmas.

In the 42-minute video, Shirley, joined by Hoch, visited several daycares that received millions of dollars in tax dollars over the years. However, Shirley and Hoch accuse the daycare centers of not actually providing daycare service to the number of children recorded to the state. The video shows Shirley inquiring about enrolling his fake child into daycare being turned away from the majority of the day care centers while not being offered information about how to enroll. At other daycares he visited, no one was there when he visited during normal operating hours. However, the owner of the Quality Learning Center said that Shirley visited outside its hours of operation, which are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

In total, Shirley alleged that $110 million in state and federal dollars was being fraudulently distributed by Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program to daycare in Minnesota, garnering the attention of Elon Musk, President Donald Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance. As a result, the Trump administration paused child care payments to Minnesota and several other states as an investigation ensued, the Department of Homeland Security launched its “largest immigration operation ever” in Minneapolis, and the state’s Gov. Tim Walz ended his reelection campaign so he could focus his time on “defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences.”
