Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that a meeting with President Donald Trump will happen in Florida on Sunday after holding extensive talks with U.S. officials for almost an hour on Christmas Day about a proposed framework to end the nearly four-year Russia-Ukraine war.

Zelenskyy told reporters the two leaders will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and that the 20-point peace plan “is about 90% ready.”

“We are not losing a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future,” Zelenskyy wrote on X before speaking with journalists. “A lot can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!”

Zelenskyy said he had a “good conversation” on Thursday with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday that the Kremlin had already been in contact with U.S. representatives since Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev met with U.S. envoys in Florida over the weekend.

“It was agreed upon to continue the dialogue,” he said.

Earlier this week, the U.S. and Ukraine reached a consensus on several critical issues in the 20-point peace plan to end the war, including security guarantees for Ukraine, European allies and the U.S.

However, sensitive issues around territorial control in Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland, along with the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, remain unresolved.

Zelenskyy said Tuesday that he would be willing to withdraw troops as part of a plan to end the war, if Russia also pulls back and the area becomes a demilitarized zone monitored by international forces.

Though Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday that there had been “slow but steady progress” in the peace talks, Russia has not indicate that it will agree to any kind of withdrawal from land it has seized.
