A Maryland man has been sentenced to more than a decade in federal prison for his role in a series of armed robberies that targeted multiple businesses, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Derek Lynn Davis, 36, of Greenbelt, was sentenced to 13 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, by U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman.

The sentence stems from Davis’s involvement in a robbery spree during the summer of 2023, during which he and his co-conspirators stole more than $3,000 and terrorized at least nine victims.

Federal prosecutors said Davis participated in six armed robberies between July and August 2023, often working with different accomplices.

In some instances, multiple businesses were robbed in a single day.

According to court documents, Davis and his co-conspirators entered stores armed with firearms and demanded that employees open cash registers.

Victims, fearing for their safety, complied with the demands.

In one incident, an accomplice fired a weapon as a victim was opening a register. The bullet struck the ground near two people.
