Annapolis, Md. (WBFF) — The Maryland State Board of Education, on Tuesday, dismissed an appeal from a parent group claiming Baltimore County Public School’s $2.5 billion budget was passed improperly.
The appeal, filed by the Baltimore County Parent and Student Coalition, followed a Project Baltimore investigation which found one school board member’s vote may have been cast improperly.
On February 24, the Baltimore County Board of Education voted 7-4 to approve the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. Robin Harvey was one of the seven votes, which was required for approval. But Project Baltimore found Harvey, prior to the vote, had already registered as a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates, which appears to be a violation of state law. Maryland education code states a Baltimore County school board member “may not be a candidate“ for “local, State or federal government.”
Tuesday’s decision from the State Board of Education to dismiss the appeal did not provide any further context. Those details are expected to be released on Wednesday.
