BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A west Baltimore grandmother is mourning the loss of her 18-year-old granddaughter, Brielle Handy, after police said she was stabbed to death late last month and a suspect has now been arrested.
“Devastated. She was my first grandchild. My baby, I raised her,” Handy’s grandmother, who is being identified only as Miss M out of concern for her safety, told FOX45 News.

Miss M said Handy had recently received her phlebotomy certificate, which allows someone to draw blood for medical tests, and was preparing for nursing school.
Police announced the arrest of Dasianne Richardson on Monday. Richardson, 34, was wanted in connection with Handy’s stabbing death.
“I’m very grateful that someone has been arrested for her murder,” Miss M said.
Miss M said she had been on the phone with her granddaughter the day before the killing and was left wondering why it happened. When asked whether Handy gave any indication something was wrong, Miss M said, “Something was going on? Nothing, nothing.”
I miss her every day. We talked every day. Every day I sent her a text early in the morning wishing her a good day telling her I loved her…any problem she had, she called grandma,” she said.
The fatal stabbing happened July 25 at about 8 p.m. on West Baltimore Street near North Hilton Street. Handy’s body was found outside the Love of God Apostolic Church, just steps away from the front door.
“We were all just grief-stricken, you know, behind it,” Ruby Ferguson, the church’s pastor, said.
Ferguson called the situation a “no win” for everyone involved.
“It’s a no win situation. Nobody wins,” she said. “It’s death both way, but the only difference is by being incarcerated, the family can visit, you know. You can still talk to the person, whereas the person that’s dead, you can’t do that.”

Back at her home, Miss M said she is still processing the loss while also thinking about the person accused in the case.
“I’m grateful she was caught. I said a prayer for her. And I’m just, I’m right now just still trying to process that my granddaughter is gone, and I’m not going to hear her come through the door, ‘Grandma, it’s me,'” she said.
Miss M said she raised Handy and will now raise Handy’s daughter, who is three-years-old.
