MARYLAND (WBFF) — Get ready to save on essentials — this year’s Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week is kicking off next week.
From next Sunday starting at 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15, qualifying clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s sales tax, according to the Comptroller of Maryland’s office. The first $40 of a backpack or bookbag purchase will also be levy-free.
“Our state families would save millions and millions of dollars,” Maryland’s Comptroller Brooke Lierman said in July about the event. “Real savings for families, real revenue for businesses, and real economic boost for our communities. That’s why this week matters.”
Anything that is above $100 will not be tax-free, according to the office. For example, sales tax would be due on a $120 pair of pants.
