Baltimore County police officer injured in shooting released from rehab

A Baltimore County police officer was released after two months of treatment and rehabilitation for critical injuries sustained when he was shot on-duty on June 7, according to officials.

Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers, Officer P. Catalfamo walked out of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute on Wednesday evening.

Catalfamo was critically injured after being shot while responding to a call along the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail in Pikesville.

Catalfamo was released from Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center on June 17.

Shaka Kamara, 38, was charged on June 9 with attempted murder in connection to the shooting of Officer Catalfamo. Kamara faces other charges including assault, numerous gun charges, and possession of a gun with a felony conviction.

On June 7, around 8:50 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Milford Mill Road for a report of an indecent exposure at the park.

Officer Catalfamo and two other police officers located Kamara, who matched the description of the suspect.

During a foot chase with officers, Kamara turned and shot Catalfamo.
