MARYLAND (WBFF) — No one knows why James “Bo” Roderick Jr., a homeless man who lived in a tent near the Monocacy River in Frederick County, was standing on railroad tracks near his campsite one afternoon in early March. What happened next was devastating.
A MARC train slammed into him, causing massive brain injuries that required him to be airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Six weeks later, the 56-year-old day laborer asked to be discharged from Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. His family says he was exhibiting many of the cognitive problems associated with traumatic brain injury — including delusional thinking, poor insight and impulsivity — and pleaded with doctors not to let him leave. On April 23, Sinai let him go.
On May 4, another train hit him. He died two days later.
