BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD (WBFF) — As Baltimore County considers giving tenants more notice before they are evicted, advocates are pushing officials to confront another part of the eviction process: a county law that requires tenants to immediately abandon possessions they cannot take with them.
The law is the subject of a federal lawsuit filed less than two months ago, following a 2024 decision by a federal appeals court that a similar Baltimore City ordinance violated tenants’ constitutional rights.
Legislation introduced last month on behalf of Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier’s administration would require landlords to give tenants written eviction notice at least 14 days before a removal.
Current county laws are silent on the required eviction notice period, though a state law passed in 2025 requires landlords to give tenants at least six days’ notice before a scheduled eviction.
