
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Over 1,000 residents are still displaced after a water leak forced Montgomery County Officials to condemn a Safeway Grocery store and apartment building.
The Safeway and Arrive Wheaton Apartments located at 11201 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton, Maryland, had five feet of water flooding the basement and affecting the building’s power, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson.

A spokesperson for the apartment complex released the following statement:
All repairs have been completed, and our teams are now conducting unit-by-unit testing of all building systems to ensure everything is fully safe for residents. Tenant safety is our number one priority, and we’re optimistic about today’s progress and hopeful that tenants may be able to return later today once final safety clearance is received.
