68-year-old woman dies in Lothian crash on Solomons Island Road

A 68-year-old woman is dead following a car crash in Lothian on Tuesday night, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

On April 21, around 7:35 p.m., officers responded to Solomons Island Road near Ducks Lane for a crash.

Upon arrival, officers requested their Crash Reconstruction Team.

The team’s preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F-350 towing a dump trailer was driving south on Solomons Island Road behind a Honda Accord.

According to officials, the driver of the Honda braked suddenly, causing the Ford to hit the left rear of the Honda.

As a result, both vehicles traveled off the road into a wooded area. The Honda struck a tree head-on.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 68-year-old Wanda Hartley of Dunkirk, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital.

She was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford, identified as a 39-year-old man from Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, declined medical treatment at the scene.
