
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — An officer from the Anne Arundel County Police Department has been suspended without pay following allegations of assault, officials announced Thursday.
The department was notified of the incident on April 14, 2026, which led to a criminal investigation into Lieutenant Matthew Ploor, a 20-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Administration.
On April 16, 2026, Lieutenant Ploor was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
Officials confirmed that he has been suspended without pay while the investigation is ongoing.

Chief Awad released the following statement regarding the officer charged:
“I find the allegations against Lieutenant Ploor concerning. We hold our officers accountable to the highest levels of professional standards and conduct.
As this case progresses through the judicial system, we will continue to cooperate with the Office of the State’s Attorney.
As is standard practice, we will conduct an administrative investigation once this case has been adjudicated.”
