HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A 23-year-old Abingdon man is being held without bail in connection to a police chase that led to a deputy-involved shooting Tuesday evening, officials said.
On September 1 around 12:23 p.m., deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit responded to a community tip near Abingdon Road where they saw suspected drug activity.

Deputies tried to stop a vehicle, but the driver, identified as 23-year-old Shemar Mekhi White, didn’t stop and “intentionally” hit a sheriff’s office vehicle, a Harford County government vehicle and a civilian vehicle.
Authorities said a confrontation occurred at the intersection of Cotswold Court and Tewkesbury Road, where two deputies fired their weapons.
White fled from the vehicle, but taken into custody after a foot pursuit, officials said.
Deputies provided aid to White for minor injuries before he was taken to a nearby hospital.
The source of White’s injuries remains unclear, authorities said.
Two deputies were placed on routine administrative leave.
On Wednesday, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office announced that White was charged with several offenses in connection to Tuesday’s pursuit and assault on deputies.
In addition to multiple traffic violations, White was also charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and two counts of malicious destruction of property.
After being released from the hospital early Tuesday evening, official said White was taken to the Harford County Detention Center.
On Wednesday afternoon, White’s bail was denied by Judge Kerwin Miller, according to online court records.
White is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
