Baltimore City firefighters honor 9/11 victims with stair climb at M&T Bank Stadium

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — To begin a week of remembrance, 25 years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, firefighters from across Maryland participated in a stair climb to honor the firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The Baltimore City Fire Department joined other fire departments from across the state at M&T Bank Stadium for the 9/11 Stair Climb on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Participants climbed 110 flights of stairs in the stadium stands, mirroring the number of flights inside the World Trade Center towers.

“I am proud to stand alongside the men and women of the Baltimore City Fire Department as we join our fire service family in such an important tradition,” Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said ahead of the climb. “May we climb with purpose. Remember always with gratitude and continue to honor our fallen through the way each and every one of us serves every day.”

The event brought members of the fire service together to reflect, remember and honor those lost 25 years ago.
