Baltimore DOT warns of lane, ramp closures & event-related street restrictions

Drivers in Baltimore should plan for a weekend of lane closures, ramp shutdowns and event-related street restrictions, including major work along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway and traffic changes tied to the Red Shoe Shuffle and the Baltimore Farmers’ Market.

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) said temporary lane and ramp closures will be in effect along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway/I-83 starting at 9 a.m. Friday, April 17. Two lanes will be closed between the 29th Street access ramp and Guilford Avenue. The lane closures are scheduled to remain in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, weather permitting.

During that time, the North Avenue ramp to southbound I-83 and the Maryland Avenue exit ramp from southbound I-83 will also be closed, with detours in effect. DOT urged motorists traveling southbound to remain alert for shifting traffic patterns within the work zone and to consider alternate routes because delays are possible.

Additional traffic modifications are scheduled across the city for special events, crane operations and repair work.

On Friday, April 17, 2026, Barclay Street will be closed between E. Lafayette Avenue and E. Lanvale Street from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a special event.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the following closures are scheduled:

– 3501 7th Street lane closures from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. for a special event, Dash 4 Dignity 5K.

– Aliceanna Street eastbound closed between Eden and Caroline streets from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a crane operation.

– Light Street lane closure between Lee Street and Key Highway from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a crane operation.

– Paca Street lane closures between Fayette and Saratoga streets from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a crane operation.

– The Hanover Street Bridge southbound lane closures between Cromwell Street and Waterview Avenue from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for repair work.

– Cumberland Street closed between Pennsylvania Avenue and Division Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a special event, Uplift Baltimore Resource Fair.

– Linwood Avenue closed between E. Pratt Street and Eastern Avenue from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a special event, R.I.S.E. For Acceptance.

– Aisquith Street closed between E. Baltimore and E. Fayette streets from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for set-up for the Red Shoe Shuffle.

– Guilford Avenue closed between E. 32nd and E. 33rd streets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a special event, Phi Delta Jump Off.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, the following lane closures are scheduled:

– Light Street lane closure between Lee Street and Key Highway from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a crane operation.

– Paca Street lane closures between Fayette and Saratoga streets from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a crane operation.

Red Shoe Shuffle traffic changes and parking restrictions

DOT also announced traffic modifications and parking restrictions for the Red Shoe Shuffle 5K Run on Sunday, April 19. The race is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 a.m. from the Ronald McDonald House.

The route begins on Fayette Street, with runners turning right on Central Avenue, right on Eastern Avenue and continuing across the Eastern Avenue Bridge toward Pier 5 and Pier 6. The course continues through the Inner Harbor area, including the promenade near the aquarium and World Trade Center, before returning via Light Street and Pratt Street. Runners then turn left on Central Avenue in an against-traffic lane, turn left on E. Baltimore Street and right on Aisquith Street to finish in front of the Ronald McDonald House.

In preparation for the event, Aisquith Street (both sides) from E. Fayette Street to E. Baltimore Street is scheduled to be closed starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 18, until 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19.

Parking restrictions are scheduled to be in effect Sunday, April 19, from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

– BS Aisquith Street from E. Fayette Street to E. Baltimore Street (starts Saturday April 18th)

– BS S. Central Avenue from E. Fayette Street to Eastern Avenue

– BS E. Baltimore Street from Llyod Street to S. Central Avenue

– WS S. Caroline Street from Lancaster Street to Dock Street

DOT said one travel lane will be coned off along the race route for participants where possible, and Baltimore City Police and traffic enforcement officers will be stationed along the route to help facilitate traffic. Temporary traffic stops may be implemented during the race.

Baltimore Farmers’ Market closures

Traffic modifications are also planned Sunday for the Baltimore Farmers’ Market, held under the Jones Falls Expressway along Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, DOT said the following street and lane closures will be implemented from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with parking restrictions in effect:

– Holliday Street closed from E. Pleasant Street to E. Saratoga Street

– Pleasant Street closed at Holliday Street

– Hillen Street center lane closure between Front Street and Fallsway

DOT said all activities are weather permitting and encouraged motorists to use alternate routes and watch for changing traffic patterns.
