A 29-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to five years in federal prison on Wednesday for drug-trafficking and firearm crimes tied to a local drug investigation, according to the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office.

U.S. District Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher sentenced Dwone Bryant to five years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances.

Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the sentence alongside ATF Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer and Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley.

According to evidence presented at trial, law enforcement agents on Nov. 6, 2023, used a surveillance camera to monitor the 200 block of North Eutaw Street near the Lexington Market metro and bus stops. Agents observed Bryant sitting on a bench at the bus stop and engaging in a hand-to-hand drug transaction.

During the transaction, Bryant sold 10 buprenorphine strips, commonly referred to as Suboxone, in exchange for $50, authorities said.

After arresting Bryant, law enforcement recovered a handgun loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, 16 additional buprenorphine strips, 11 pills containing methamphetamine, a small baggie of suspected marijuana and $166.75, according to officials. Authorities also recovered a schedule III controlled substance and a schedule II controlled substance.

Bryant was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to multiple prior drug-related felonies, authorities said.

Hayes commended the ATF and Baltimore Police Department for their work in the investigation and thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Levin, who is prosecuting the case.
