According to police, the incident started around 4:48 p.m. in the 900 block of Larch Avenue, off New Hampshire Avenue, while officers were patrolling the area.

Police said officers located a stolen Honda, and when an officer exited his patrol car to approach it, the car sped toward him. The officer fired his handgun once at the auto.

Authorities said the driver fled the scene in the older-model white four-door Honda Civic. A regional lookout was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The released footage includes body-worn camera footage from the officer involved, dashboard camera footage from the patrol vehicle, and home security footage. The videos show the events leading up to the shooting, including what police described as the suspect attempting to strike the officer with the stolen auto before he fired a single shot.

No officers, suspects or bystanders were injured during the incident, police said.

The officer involved has been identified as Officer Samuel Brownlee, who has been a patrol officer with the Takoma Park Police Department since September 2024.

The shooting occurred in the city’s Ward 2.
