WINFIELD, Md. (WBFF) — Firefighters from multiple counties spent about five hours battling a large house fire Sunday afternoon in Winfield, according to the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department.
Around 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department was dispatched to the 2500 block of Vance Drive for a reported building fire.
According to the department, the first units arriving from Winfield encountered a home with a large volume of fire throughout the structure.

The size of the fire, combined with the absence of fire hydrants in the area, prompted officials to call for additional resources.
Authorities said the incident eventually escalated to a second alarm, and two tanker task forces were requested to provide water.
The response brought firefighters and equipment from Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery counties to the scene.
Crews said they operated at the fire for approximately five hours before Sykesville units returned to their station.
