Residents at an apartment community in Dundalk were struggling to understand what led their neighbor to open fire at the White House Saturday night.

Nasire Best, 21, was shot and killed during a shootout with Secret Service agents.

“It totally surprises me, I had no clue whatsoever,” said a neighbor who lived next door to Best and chose not to be identified.

The Secret Service said agents had arrested Best last year after he claimed he was Jesus Christ and attempted to gain entry to the White House. He was then ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Best graduated from Dundalk High School three years ago and was a member of the track team. His most recent address was at Foundry by the Park Apartments in Dundalk.

“I thought it was surprising he was here, and I was like, I’ve never seen anyone like that crazy out here,” a neighbor said.

Court records show Best’s landlord filed suit three separate times last year, alleging the 21-year-old failed to pay rent. In December, court records show Best was evicted.

On Monday, neighbors were struggling to understand the chain of events that led to the loss of their neighbor. “I think he was wrong. No one has the right to pull a gun on anybody,” one neighbor insisted.
