Gov. Wes Moore has been selected as the Democratic nominee for Maryland’s next governor, the Associated Press projects.

The race was called in favor of Moore shortly after polls closed in Maryland at 8 p.m. on June 23.

Moore now awaits his Republican opponent, which will be between Ed Hale, Dan Cox, Carl Brunner, Jr., L.D. Burkindine, Douglas Larcomb, John Myrick, Michael Oakes, Nancy Taylor or Kurt Wedekind.

Andy Ellis is running representing the Green Party.

Moore has served as as Maryland’s 63rd governor since 2023.

His tenure has not gone on without controversy, as Moore has faced questions about his administration’s handling of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and rebuild, a state budget crisis, and rumors of a possible presidential run in 2028.

Political observers say they will be paying close attention to the size of his victory. A strong showing could further boost Moore’s national profile as his name continues to surface in discussions about the future of the Democratic Party.
