NEW YORK (TNND) — Two men were killed and three others were seriously hurt in New York City after a suspected drunk driver slammed into several parked cars before jumping a curb and crashing into people sitting outside a barbershop on Friday evening, according to reports.

Citing police, The New York Post identified the driver as 61-year-old Elvin Suarez, of Morningside Heights.
A witness described the scene as a “horror show” and told the media outlet the driver “pinned” one of the men under his car.
“It was unsettling, truly unsettling,” David Lawrence, the witness, said. “It looked like a Halloween set-up. Just his head and his arms were completely disfigured.”
In a social media post, the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced it was conducting “a collision investigation” near West 109 Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan on Friday around 7 p.m.
The NYPD urged drivers to avoid the area.
Two men, ages 35 and 46, were pronounced dead, the outlet said. Three others, ages 36, 44 and 51, were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition, per the outlet.
Family and friends told The Post that one of the men who was killed was a father of triplets. He worked at a hospital, while the other was a doorman who had recently finished his shift, the report noted.
Police said the driver was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where his blood was tested for alcohol. He now faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, vehicular assault, and driving while intoxicated.

Witnesses said community members rushed to help victims and pull the driver from the wrecked car moments after impact.
“(I) ran outside and there was just chaos over there on the street,” Matt Amsterdam, another witness, told WABC. “I didn’t know what happened immediately, but we knew it was an accident. I went over and I saw one person on the ground who I could tell immediately was struggling for life — if he had any left.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
