
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A hydrochloric acid leak from a CSX rail car in south Baltimore was contained Tuesday evening, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on May 5, the fire department received a call from CSX for a reported hydrochloric acid leak from a rail car located near the 800 block of Chesapeake Avenue and 9th Street.

Upon arrival, HAZMAT units started to identify and contain the source of the leak.
It’s unclear what the cause of the leak was.
As of 5:47 p.m., the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) was on scene helping with mitigation efforts.
The leak was contained within the rail yard, and authorities said there was no threat to the surrounding community.
Officials didn’t anticipate for traffic to be impacted.
