BALTIMORE (WBFF) — An illegal immigrant from Portugal pled guilty and received a federal sentence Monday after he rammed into law enforcement vehicles in December, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Maryland.
Officials said 30-year-old Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins was sentenced to time served, totaling 103 days, after he used his van to collide with government vehicles while trying to escape from immigration officers.
Sousa-Martins is also required to pay $1,000 in restitution.
On December 24, 2025, authorities reported that ICE officers conducted a traffic stop on Sousa-Martins’ vehicle.
The officers boxed in his vehicle, positioning their cars in front, behind, and to the side.
When ICE officers exited their vehicles and instructed Sousa-Martins to step out, he refused to comply.
In response, authorities said the officers broke the side window of Sousa-Martins’ vehicle and attempted to remove him.
Sousa-Martins then put his vehicle in drive and moved a short distance forward.
Authorities reported that he continued to drive back and forth between the officers’ vehicles, eventually reversing into the car parked behind him.
