President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the U.S. is poised to launch another military strike against Iran, noting that Tehran might face “another big hit” if negotiations fail and tensions continue to escalate.

Trump’s comments came as he revealed he was “an hour away” from approving additional strikes before pausing military action to allow diplomatic talks to continue. The president said discussions involving Gulf nations and other regional mediators persuaded him to delay the operation, though he emphasized the U.S. military remains prepared to act.

“We may have to give Iran another big hit,” Trump told reporters, while also insisting the U.S. would not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons or threaten American interests in the region.

Trump administration officials have said negotiations remain underway, but the president has repeatedly expressed frustration with Tehran’s refusal to accept U.S. terms related to its nuclear program and regional military activity.

Trump said military plans were fully prepared before he decided to postpone the operation.

“I was an hour away from making the decision to go today,” Trump said.
