‘It hurts my heart’: Tree crashes through roof of family’s Gaithersburg townhome

GAITHERSBURG, Md (7News) — Yoland Frazier believes someone or some higher power was looking out for her on Tuesday.

Frazier tells 7News she got out of her bed less than five minutes before a tree came crashing down through her ceiling.

“It’s like something, somebody was watching over me and told me to get up and move,” said Frazier. “I heard this big clap of thunder just booming.”

The next thing she knows, ceiling pieces, insulation and rain covered her bed, dresser, bookshelf and everything else in her room.

One of her bedroom windows is cracked, and the other is gone. Frazier hasn’t even been able to get inside her bathroom yet to check the damage in there.

A massive tree not on her property fell across her neighbor’s fence and into her home. It also destroyed the deck behind her home.

This is more than a house to Frazier; it’s the home where the memories of her mother live.

“It’s everything. It’s like my heart; this was my mother’s home. She passed away here; it hurts my heart because this was her heart. It was her first home,” said Frazier.

Frazier and her sons live in the house, but they have found somewhere else where they can spend the night.

She is already in contact with a tree service who told her they would bring a crane out Wednesday morning to start moving the massive tree.
